emma carrier obitEmma Lou Carrier, age 87, of Shippenville, passed away Monday afternoon, February 1, 2016 at the Clarion Hospital following an illness.

Born April 8, 1928 in New Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Helen E. Laidig Herbert. She married Edward W. Carrier on June 21, 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Emma was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School and DuBois Business College.

She worked in Clarion County government from 1962 until her retirement, serving as Judge’s Secretary, Court Stenographer and Court Administrator.

Emma was a beautiful singer (a coloratura soprano) and studied music. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, knitting, needlework and shopping.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include three daughters: Laura J. Urban of Clarion; Kathleen A. Mohney of Summerville and Deborah C. Say and her husband, Edward, of Shippenville; seven grandchildren: Scott Mohney, Luke Mohney (Kayla), Nathan Mohney, Alexander Urban, Matthew Say, Josiah Urban (Toni) and Brett Say (Monica Atone).
Emma is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Madalene Herbert of New Bethlehem and Aletta Carrier of Reynoldsville and four nieces: Jamie Toven, Patty Carrier, Sara and Mary Elizabeth and a nephew, Jim Herbert.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Robert Herbert; one sister, Sara; a great grandson, Bailey and two nephews, Michael Herbert and Stephen Carrier.
At Emma’s request, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held by the family. Burial will take place in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
