A-C Valley’s Fox Rules the Hurdles in D9 2A Girls’ Track for Second Straight Year

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – For the second straight year, A-C Valley’s Emma Fox rules the District 9 Class 2A hurdles.

Fox swept her way to victory in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at Friday’s District 9 Championships at Brookville High School.

She won the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.46 and the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.05. Fox was also third in the 100-meter dash (13.32) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.75).

Moniteau’s Kendall Grossman set a meet record in the pole vault with a winning leap of 11 feet, 4 inches) breaking the previous mark of 11-1 set in 2014 by Brookville’s Brandi Cooper.

Moniteau’s Cambrie Campbell is also headed to the PIAA Championship in two events finishing second in the javelin with a throw of 145-feet, 5-inches and sixth in the discus with a throw of 113-2. The discus saw six District 9 athletes all reach the PIAA qualifying standard.

Cranberry’s Lauren Varsek just missed out on a trip to states in both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run finishing third in both events. She ran 5:43.74 in the 1,600 and 12:34.36 in the 3,200.

Elk County Catholic won the team title for the third time in the last five years and for the 13th time since 2001 with 72 points. Johnsonburg was second with 64.50 points, Punxsutawney third with 52.50 points and Brookville fourth with 49 points.

Oswayo Valley’s Sara McKean took home the James Manner Award as the meet’s MVP after winning three events.

McKean took home championships in the 200 (26.80), the long jump (17 feet, 7 ¼ inches) and the triple jump (36-5 ½). She was also a member of the second-place 4×100-meter relay team that qualified for the PIAA meet in a time of 50.79 joined on that squad by Shayla Bickel, Faith Coole and McKenzie Gross).
