alberta reedAlberta Mae (Spare) Reed, age 86, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully, with many members of her family by her side, on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA.

She was born on November 27, 1930, in Timblin, PA, to the late Martin John and Olie Viola (McDonald) Spare.

She was first married to Harold Geist, who preceded her in passing on August 6, 1982. Her second husband was Robert Harold Reed, who preceded her in passing on August 7, 2007.

At the age of seventeen, Alberta was employed by the Brookville Hospital; she spent seven years working in the kitchen. When she was married they relocated and Alberta spent two years working in the Pepsi-Cola factory located in Jamestown, NY. Her family continued to grow and she returned to Pennsylvania and stayed here to raise her children.

For over twenty-two years, she has been a member of the Brookville Church of God, and together with the Lord by her side, she raised her family.

Her life was always devoted to her family and almost everything she did was centered on her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel with any and all of them, whether it was simply a day trip or long distance, she loved being able to go and see all the beautiful parts of God’s creation.

She loved to bake and cook, and she rarely used a recipe. The first words out of her mouth after saying hello upon visiting her were “Are you hungry? Let me fix you something.”

She enjoyed planning Sunday dinners for her family. She virtually raised her 9 children on her own, all of which she was very proud of and concerned with. She used love and discipline as her main tools for rearing them. She provided a good life for them all, and she came from very little.

She was raised in a home without the common amenities that we use today like electricity and indoor plumbing.

She loved listening to old timey music, and she was talented with things like embroidery. She loved reading her Bible, going to church, working through crossword puzzles and word searches, and she loved cats. She could play musical instruments and all throughout her life she commented on how much she would have loved to have been an airline attendant.

Without the limitations that this life had on her, she can now soar through the heavens and travel to her heart’s content.

Her legacy is her family, and they all love and miss her dearly.

Alberta is survived by 3 sons; Ronald (Shelley) Geist of Mayport, PA; Robert Reed of Strattanville, PA; David Reed of Strattanville, PA; 4 daughters; Carol (Greg) Guerra of Clarion, PA; Cathy (Bill) Simpson of Strattanville, PA; Mary (James) Blachier of Strattanville, PA; Dorothy (Dave) Bush of Summerville, PA; 21 grandchildren; April, Crystal, Brian, Tammy, Matt, Bill, Jeremy, Ronny, Tonya, Cassie, Melody, Kayla, Robbie, Josh, Cody, Summer, Greg Jr., Isaac, Elijah, Greg II, Sharon; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Alberta is preceded in death by 2 sons; Harold Geist Jr., and Richard Geist; 1 brother; Floyd “Sonny” Spare; and 1 sister, Kathryn “Tooty” Lucas.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 4 — 8pm, at the Brookville Church of God, 201 Freedom Lane, Brookville, PA, 15825. A second viewing will take place on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from 10 — 10:45am, also at the Brookville Church of God.

A funeral service will immediately take place following the viewing on June 14, 2017, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by Pastor Henry Scoff.

Interment will take place at the Cedarview Memorial Park, Clarion Twp, Clarion Co., PA.
