Scan0003Alda B. Powell, 88, of Templeton (Goheenville), went to her heavenly home Friday afternoon, November 20, 2015 from her residence.

She was born April 15, 1927, in Goheenville, the daughter of George B. “Barty” and Elva N. (Hetrick) Rupp.

She was married June 3, 1950 to Kenneth E. “Sol” Powell and he preceded her in death on January 31, 1997. They are now “together again”.

Alda was the owner and operator of Alda’s Beauty Shop in Timblin before she married Kenneth “Sol” Powell.

She enjoyed the Family Reunions, Cousins Day, and visiting with her family and friends. She loved all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and church family and neighbors, neices and nephews. Especially, Pastor Jimmy Swogger who she considered her other son to another mother. And his son, Alex.

She attended the Oakland Church of God in Distant. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #230 in New Bethlehem and Amaranth in Kittanning, and the American Legion Auxillary in Dayton.

She is survived by, six children, Melodye Buzzard and her husband Glenn of Templeton, Deric Powell and his wife Kathy of Grove City, Kevin Powell of Kittanning, Neal Powell and his wife Lisa of Slippery Rock, Sheila Reesman of Templeton and John Powell and his wife Jaimie of Rochester, a son-in-law, Jim Walker and his wife Michelle of New Bethlehem, a daughter-in-law, Karen Powell of Utica, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins, and two sisters, LaRue Williams of Belknap and Marggie Light of Ohio, and a brother, Merle Rupp and his wife Liz of New Bethlehem.

In addition to her parents and husband Sol, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimber L. Walker (2003), a son, Steven B. Powell (2014), and two brothers, Glenn and Charles Rupp.

Friends will be received Monday, November 23, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, and Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Oakland Church of God in Distant.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating.

Interment will be in the Belknap Cemetery, Wayne Township, Armstrong County.

The Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn is handling the arrangements.
