Alfred J. Gatesman, 88, a lifelong resident of Marienville, PA (for the past two years a resident of Brevillier Village in Harbor Creek, PA) passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA.

Alfred was born on November 12, 1928 in Clarion. He was the son of the late Michael Gatesman and Barbara (Bauer) Gatesman.

On April 29, 1950 he married Catherine E. (Katy) Schaming of Crown, PA she survives.

Alfred worked at Glass Containers Corp. of Marienville for 33 years and 10 years at Forest County Rural Transportation Dept.

Alfred was of the Catholic faith and belonged to St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Marienville.

Alfred was a very friendly and outgoing person with a good sense of humor and quick with a joke. He enjoyed gardening and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He especially enjoyed being around others and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Catherine (Katy) and son Mike Gatesman (wife Molly) of Girard, PA. and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Joe Gatesman of Leeper, Steve Gatesman of Lucinda, and Jerome Gatesman of Bradford, PA and one sister Marie Aaron of Leeper.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Jim Gatesman who died November 29, 1973, a daughter Cathy Olivier August 10, 2013 and a son Tom Gatesman August 12, 2015. He was also preceded in death by one sister Anna Tingley.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Furlong Funeral Home (www.furlongfuneralhome.com), 140 Cherry Street, Marienville, PA with a wake service at 4:00 pm.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Marienville with Rev. Christopher Barnes, pastor as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery, Jenks Twp., Forest County, PA.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to St Ann’s Catholic Church in Marienville, PA.
