Alfred Guth JrAlfred “Junior” F. Guth, Jr., 79, of Fryburg passed away on March 24, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Born on April 19, 1937, in Knox Township he was the son of Alfred and Opal Wurster Guth. Most people called him Junior.

He started school in the one room Lauer Schoolhouse. Later he went to Shippenville Public School and graduated from the School of Hard Knocks.

In his youth, Junior enjoyed dirt car racing with his friends. They were competitive on the track and were well respected among their peers. He gave up racing when his children became teenagers.

Junior worked as a mechanic not of his life. He spent 33 years working at Ron Seidle Chevrolet. He was loyal to the Seidle Family and considered Ron Seidle a close friend. Numerous times as a service manager, technicians from Detroit would call him to solve an engine problem they could not fix. Junior could build or fix anything and was good at what he did.

Junior was very reasonable at his approach to life and very committed to this Catholic Faith. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member at St. Michael Church in Fryburg. When you approached Junior, you could count on a smile and a laugh. He was always a pleasure to be around. A good husband, father, and friend to many, he will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Junior is survived by his wife of sixty years Shirley Faye Stromyer Guth, and their children: Cal J. Guth of Youngstown, OH; Pamela M Bastian and her husband R. Terry of Mearlington, MS; and Jody F. Guth and his wife Suzann of Shippenville. Also surviving are sisters Doris Kramer and her husband Lloyd; Helen Obenrader and her husband Jim; Cathy Shingeldecker and her husband Roger, and Clara Sonoski. Surviving brothers-in-law are Robert Schupp, and Ralph Lander, and sisters-in-law Mona Rita Guth and Donna Guth. Junior is also survived by his grandchildren Eric Lonideire, Andrew and Mason Guth and Christy and Elizabeth James. Many nieces and nephews as well as a close family friend Paul Neives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Randy James and Gary Francis Guth, brothers: Gerald and Henry Guth, sisters: Rita McGraw, Marion Lander, and Dorothy Guth, brothers-in-law Paul Sonoski and Jack McGraw.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg, with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, Pastor of St. Michael Church presiding.

Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery following the Mass.
