| February 25, 2019

Alice Mae (Powell) Shoup, age 73, of Oil City, Pa. passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at her residence surrounded by loved ones.

Alice was born on March 21, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late John F. and Agnes Marie (Swanson) Powell.

At an early age, her family moved to a farm in the Scrubgrass area on the outskirts of Emlenton, Pa.

She attended Emlenton High School of the Allegheny Valley School District and graduated in 1963.

In her senior year, she was the recipient of the DAR Good Citizenship Award.

After high school, Alice was employed as a restaurant waitress for a very brief period of time after which she was employed as a clerk with the Columbia Gas of Pa., Inc. in Emlenton, Pa.; a clerk with Brody’s Department Store; and, a secretary with the Oil City Area School District.

Alice loved baseball, baking and cooking, singing, theatre, humor, comedy, reading, flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, day trips, bird-watching and all animals, especially her many pets over the years.

She particularly enjoyed and valued get-togethers with her very close-knit family and special friends.

She was also very fond of her wonderful neighbors and the many students Alice and her husband, Ron, interacted with throughout their lives together.

Those who knew Alice well will remember her for her humility, kindness, warmth of character, sensitivity, sparkle, remarkable sense of humor and quick wit.

She had a radiant personality and greatly cherished daily laughter and the simpler pleasures of life.

Alice was a very caring person who loved helping others and often placed their needs above her own.

Throughout most of her life, Alice was a very active community volunteer on behalf of various churches and numerous community organizations, but preferred volunteering in ways that would keep her out of the limelight.

She was very humbled to have been awarded the 2004 Venango Area Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award.

In 2007, Alice, along with and her husband, Ron, were co-recipients of the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award.

Alice is survived by her best friend and beloved husband of 51 years, Ronald E. Shoup, to whom she was married on July 15, 1967 following a five-year courtship.

Powell and his wife, Cathy; other sisters-in-law Astrid Powell, Bertha Powell and Betty (Shoup) Weeter; brothers-in-law Lawrence Shoup and his wife, Darla; Robert Shoup and his wife, Marilyn; Kenneth Shoup and his wife, Peggy; Dale Grove; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
