James (Jim) Alcorn, of Franklin, served in the United States Marines.

Jim proudly served his country as a United States Marine during Operation Desert Storm, as well as serving in many hostile places around the world.

Jim was a Sergeant in B Company 2nd Tank Division and earned medals for Rifle Expert, Pistol Expert, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He taught 9th- and 10th-grade social studies for 21 years at Franklin High School and enjoyed telling his students his many stories from serving in the military.

He succumbed from bladder cancer due to contaminated drinking water he was exposed to while serving with the United States Marines at Camp Lejeune.

Full military honors were presented by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard during his interment at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry, Pa.
