263614PFC Shakley enlisted in the United States Army on October 1, 1968. He began his tour in Vietnam on March 14, 1969, with the 4th Infantry Division, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, B Company in Kontum, South Vietnam.

PFC Shakley died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds on June 10, 1969 – just shy of his 20th birthday.

He is buried in the Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia, Butler County.
