Workers Gearing Up for Allegheny Boulevard Project; Lane Restrictions Expected

| June 26, 2018

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – According to a release from PennDOT, work to rebuild more than 500 feet of the Route 62/Route 8 (Allegheny Boulevard) retaining wall in Sugarcreek Borough is underway.

While PennDOT’s release says the project was set to officially start next week, the June 25 release also said work, which runs between the northbound lanes of Route 62/Route 8 and the Allegheny River and will include roadway reconstruction, was expected to begin on Monday, June 25, and be completed by Oct. 5, 2018. No detour is anticipated for the project, but during construction, both northbound and southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane between Oil City and the village of Reno.

While the traffic restrictions weren’t in place as of Monday morning, there were signs the project was getting underway, according to the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department. The department doesn’t expect any major issues based on past experience.

“When they worked on that before, we didn’t have any real problems,” Sugarcreek Borough Police Chief Matthew Carlson said.

The Route 62/Route 8 project cost is $3,643,567.00 and was awarded to contractor Francis J. Palo of Clarion. The project is to be paid for with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds, and the project is made possible in part by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

During construction, PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
