| March 14, 2018

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (EYT) – Each year during AmeriCorps Week, Keystone SMILES recognizes the commitment of AmeriCorps members and alumni by highlighting the extraordinary impact AmeriCorps makes across our nation every day.

This year, AmeriCorps Week is taking place during the week of March 11.

The Pennsylvania Americorps event is being held in Williamsport this week and Keystone SMILES has 57 AmericaCorps members and 6 staff there.

Pa. Secretary of Labor and Industry W. Gerard “Jerry” Oleksiak spoke at an opening assembly.

“Governor Wolf was a Peace Corp. volunteer when he was younger, so service means a lot to him and not just because it’s the right thing to do, and it is, but because it’s good public policy,” Oleksiak said.

The group also had the opportunity to go to the Little League Baseball Hall of Fame Museum.

AmeriCorps Week is a time to salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their service, thank AmeriCorps community partners, and communicate AmeriCorps impact on communities and on the lives of those who serve.

Nearly 4,000 AmeriCorps members responded to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria and many are still on the ground in those communities today.

AmeriCorps Week is a celebration of all things AmeriCorps – the people and programs who have committed to “Get Things Done” in thousands of locations across the country since the program’s inception in 1994.
