Anna KrausAnna Josephine Kraus, age 90, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital.

She was born on April 11, 1927, in Brookville, PA, to the late Alexander B. and Bernadine (Lyle) Kraus.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Brookville, PA.

Anna entered the convent of the Maryknoll Sisters Missionary Order, where she received her education in healthcare.

She also attended Avila College in Kansas City, MO, where she received her BA in Medical Record Administration.

In California, she was director of Medical Records at Maryknoll Hospital and attended Pasadena City College receiving her RN in Nursing, working in that capacity at Sierra Madre Hospital.

She also attended UCLA receiving her Master’s Degree (MPH) in Public Health. She also attended the State University of New York, in Buffalo, receiving a Master’s in Teacher Preparation for Allied Health Professions.

Upon her return to public life, she was a faculty member of Alderson – Broaddus College, in Philippi, WV, where she developed a four-year degree program in Medical Record Administration and was the State Association precedent for a two-year term.

She also taught at Stark Technical College in Canton, OH, as well as a short-term consultant for the World Health Organization at Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, Bahamas.

Returning to PA, she was director of Medical Records at Clarion Hospital and upon returning she was a medical records consultant for long-term care facilities in surrounding counties.

She was a volunteer in numerous organizations in Brookville, PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Lyle, Robert, and Dennis Kraus. She is survived by 1 sister; Julia R. Reitz; 3 nephews; and 2 nieces. Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 24, 2017, from 5 — 8pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 129 Graham Ave., Brookville, PA, 15825, beginning at 10:00am, and officiated by Father William Laska.

Interment will take place at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rose Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
