Area Man Accused of Child Endangerment, DUI Waives Hearing

GavelFRENCHCREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A 30-year-old man facing child endangerment and DUI charges connected to a crash in Frenchcreek Township waived his preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Court documents indicate the following criminal charges against 30-year-old Trevor J. Latchaw, of Meadville, were waived for court on Wednesday, January 16:

  • DUI: General Impairment/Incapable of Driving Safely – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
  • DUI: Highest Rate of Alcohol (BAC .16+) 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
  • Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
  • Disregard Traffic Lane (Single), Summary
  • Careless Driving, Summary

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Latchaw remains free on $2,500.00 unsecured bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:42 p.m. on July 25, Trooper Schmader, of the Franklin-based State Police, was dispatched to investigate a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Mercer Road and Georgetown Road in Frenchcreek Township, Venango County.

Upon his arrival, Trooper Schmader conducted an investigation of the incident which involved Trevor Joseph Latchaw leaving the roadway, causing a crash with his four-year-old child in the vehicle.

The complaint notes that upon his completion of the investigation, Trooper Schmader detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage from Latchaw. and asked Latchaw to conduct standardized field sobriety test.

According to the complaint, during the tests, Latchaw exhibited signs of intoxication. Trooper Schmader then had Latchaw blow into a PBT, which also indicated the presence of alcohol.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed on Tuesday, October 30, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.
