Armed Oil City Man Accused of Threatening to ‘Teach Woman a Lesson’

police-newOIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man is facing charges after he allegedly made threats against his ex-wife.

A criminal complaint filed by Oil City Police Patrolman Byham states that the incident happened on December 2 around 11:30 p.m., after police received a report of an intoxicated male walking on Harriott Avenue with a gun in his waistband.

Officers were unable to locate the man who was later identified as Randall Lee Reed, 48, of Oil City.

The criminal complaint states that officers located Reed inside his apartment and noticed that he “had the odor of alcohol, bloodshot glassy eyes, and was struggling with balance”; however, they were unable to locate any weapons.

Investigators then spoke with the person who reported the incident and they stated that Reed was “heavily intoxicated.”

The person also told police that Reed bent down to pet a dog and that’s when they noticed the pistol.

He then stood up and pulled his jacket back over the weapon before stating “that’s for my ex-wife – she needs to be taught a lesson.”

Reed was subsequently taken into custody and later charged with the following offenses at District Judge Andrew Fish’s office:

  • Terroristic Threats with Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
  • Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
  • Public Drunkenness And Similar Misconduct, Summary

Reed was placed in the Venango County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for December 7 before Judge Fish.
