Arthur Joseph Lander, 73, of Oil City, died, Friday, September 19, 2014, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family.

Born June 3, 1941 in Lucinda, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Loretta Schupp Lander.

Arthur served honorably in the US Marine Corps.

He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and finished his career as a construction supervisor, working for the Horst Group in Lancaster, PA until his retirement in 2006.

Mr. Lander was a member of St. Stephen Church as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Arthur’s great love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always generous with his time and carpentry skills, helping his family with many home improvement projects.

On January 19, 1963 he married the former Jane Bauer, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Arthur is survived by two sons, Patrick A. Lander and his wife Robin of Oil City, and Arthur J. Lander, Jr. and his wife Megan of Lancaster; three daughters, Christine A. Snyder and her husband Neally of San Antonio, TX, Mary E. Loll and her husband Bernard of Seneca, and Michelle C. Lander of Oil City; and eight grandchildren, Erica Loll, Justin Loll, Stuart Lander, Colleen Lander, Connor Snyder, Lauren Snyder, Audrey Snyder, and Garrett Snyder.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ralph Lander of Fryburg, and Russell Lander of Clarion; one sister, Bernice Beirnik of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight sisters, Susan Marie Dayton, Grace Zacherl, Bernadine Goughler, Helen Lander, Florence Schmader, Catherine Whitehill, Beatrice Biltz and Ann Kinch; and three brothers, Daniel Joseph Lander and twins Frederick and Paul Lander who died at birth.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Monday in St. Stephen Church with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, presiding.

Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lucinda.
