Attorney General Charges Oil City Man for Selling Weed to Informant

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man is in hot water after he allegedly sold marijuana to a confidential informant working for the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office.

Shea Austin Smayda, 25, was arraigned on the following charges Friday at Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony (2 counts)
  • Criminal Use Of Communication Facility, Felony 3
  • Criminal Use Of Communication Facility, Grade Unknown
  • Int. Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor (2 counts)
  • According to a criminal complaint filed by the Attorney General’s office, the charges stem from two incidents in which Smayda allegedly sold marijuana to a confidential informant.

    In April 2018, Smayda used Facebook instant messenger to arrange a drug deal with the informant. The informant gave $180.00 to Smayda in exchange for approximately 13 grams of marijuana, according to the criminal complaint.

    Smayda allegedly used Facebook instant messenger again in July 2018 to arrange a second drug deal in which the informant paid $310.00 for approximately 26 grams of marijuana.

    Smayda is free on $15,000.000 unsecured bail.

    He faces a preliminary hearing on Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.
