Authorities Investigating After Titusville Police Officer Discharges Weapon During Pursuit

CRAWFORD CO., Pa. (EYT) – State police are investigating an incident involving a Titusville Police Officer who discharged his weapon during a vehicle pursuit early Monday morning.

The Pennsylvania State Police, Corry station, was contacted on Monday, January 28, 2019, around 12:41 a.m. to investigate the circumstances of a Titusville Police Office discharging his weapon during a pursuit that started in the City of Titusville and traveled into Oil Creek Township, Crawford County.

Officers from the Titusville Police Department had attempted to stop a maroon colored Ford Escape SUV within the City of Titusville for observed traffic violations. The suspect vehicle failed to stop as the officers activated their emergency lights and siren. The suspect vehicle fled through the City of Titusville committing numerous traffic violations.

The vehicle continued north on State State Route 8 into Oil Creek Township. The vehicle was momentarily stopped near the intersection of State Route 8 and Boghollow Road when the Titusville Police Department marked patron unit got in front of the suspect vehicle. At this point, one of the officers exited the patrol unit. It is believed that the officer discharged his weapon in the direction of the suspect vehicle. The interactions of the suspect and officers are currently being investigated.

The suspect vehicle then fled the scene south toward the City of Titusville and was not located.

The investigation continues with the consultation of the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office.

There are no reported injuries regarding this incident.
