Autopsy Performed on Man Killed in Fiery I-80 Crash

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — An autopsy was performed on a man who was trapped in his truck in a fiery crash on I-80 on Sunday afternoon.

The autopsy was performed at the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office on Monday morning.

Clarion County Coroner Terry Shaffer told exploreClarion.com that it will be several weeks before the results of the autopsy will be released.

The coroner’s office was not able to identify the victim due to the body being burned beyond recognition.

As of 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Clarion-based State Police had not released the victim’s identity.

The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, near mile marker 66.8 when a tractor trailer caught fire following a multi-vehicle accident.

Sources say the truck was fully engulfed in flames with one person trapped inside.

The Clarion County Coroner’s office was called to the scene at 5:13 p.m.

Clarion-based State Police, Clarion Hospital EMS, Clarion Fire and Hose Company No. 1, Corsica Volunteer Fire Company, Limestone Township Volunteer Fire Company, and Strattanville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and Bauer Truck Repair were also called to the scene.

Both Interstate 80 eastbound lanes were closed from Exit 60 to Exit 70.

Major backups were reported on Interstate 80.

Heavy traffic was reported on Routes 208, 322, 68, and 66 in the Clarion and Shippenville area due to traffic being diverted.
