Barbara S. Romanchak

Barbara S. Romanchak, 90, a former Rocky Grove resident, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, in Sugar Creek Station, following a period of declining health.

She was born January 26, 1928, in Franklin, a beloved daughter of the late Francis J. and Josephine M. Wilson Sullivan.

Barb attended Rocky Grove High School, graduating in 1945. She had worked for more than 18 years as a secretary for the Valley Grove School District. She retired from there in 1982.

Barb was a member, for many years, of the PA State Retirees. She was happiest as a homemaker for her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin.

She was married May 13, 1950, by Reverend Joseph Grode in St. Patrick Church to Joseph P. Romanchak. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2014.

Barb is survived by three daughters: Suzanne M. O’Neil and husband, Floyd of Franklin, Sally A. Scheffer of Oil City and Nancy J. Weiser and husband, James, also of Franklin. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Scott A. O’Neil and wife, Ashley; Brett A. O’Neil, Jenifer Kachik and husband, Daniel; Corinna Scheffer, Stephanie Watson and husband, Chris and Tiffany Weiser and her special friend, Peter Gmiter; and by great-grandchildren: Morgan Scheffer, Ivy O’Neil, Blake Kachik, Levi Scheffer, Connor and Caden Watson.

Also surviving is her sister, Patricia J. Karg of Wilmington, NC; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death two grandsons: Joshua A. Scheffer and Eric J. O’Neil, an infant sister, Janet Marie Sullivan; by a brother, Francis J. Sullivan, Jr. and by a brother-in-law, Paul J. Karg.

Friends may call Thursday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Deacon Richard Reed of St. Patrick Church, presiding.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty Street, Franklin with Monsignor John J. Herbein, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed in her name to either: St. Patrick School, St. Patrick Church or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff at Sugar Creek Station for the kind and loving care of their mother, as well as gratitude to the loving caregivers that assisted in her care while still living in her home.
