Barbara Sue “Barbi” Burkhardt

Barbara Sue “Barbi” Burkhardt, 35, of Shippenville, formerly of Oil City, died as the result of a motorcycle accident that occurred in Clarion County on Monday evening, July 16, 2018.

She was born in Franklin on February 20, 1983, to Gerri Elizabeth (Kush) Lewis and H. Robert Burkhardt.

Barbi graduated from Oil City High School. She then earned associate degrees from DuBois Business College; and a degree in dental hygiene from Wayne County Community College in Michigan.

She enjoyed being outdoors, kayaking, four-wheeling, running in marathons, and music that touched her soul. Barbi was also an avid lover of art and could see beauty in anything. She was amazingly talented with her remodeling and home decorating skills and did so much for family and friends. She loved her Boxer rescue pup, “Maci.”

Barbi was previously employed at the Dale Woodard Law Firm, the Salvation Army Dental Center, and worked in the real estate industry. She was currently employed as a dental hygienist at UPMC Primary Health Network in Clarion.

She is survived by her mother, Gerri Elizabeth Lewis and her husband Venice of Oil City; her father, H. Robert Burkhardt of Long Island, New York; two brothers, Ean Burkhardt and Adam Burkhardt, both of Oil City; a sister, Beth Emick and her husband Todd of Rouseville; her fur-brother, “Chewy”; and two nieces, Katlyn and Aleigha Emick.

Also surviving are her very close friends: Amanda Sheffer of Oil City, and her two children, who Barbi called her niece and nephew, Destinee and Zander Sheffer; Kate and Jamie Schell of Oil City, and their son, Brayden; and Kyle Donovan of Erie; and many aunts, uncles, and special cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Geraldine Kush; and Richard and Lila Burkhardt; and an aunt (from whom she got her name), Barbara Zampogna.

Friends and family will be received Friday, July 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A service to celebrate Barbi’s life will be held in the funeral home Saturday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m.
