Baseball: Cranberry Beats Two Different Teams Wednesday

SENECA, Pa. (D9Sports) – In the first of two games against two different opponents at home, Cranberry knocked off A-C Valley, 10-2.

Brandon Forrest, Tommy Flinspach and Hunter O’Neill each had a pair of RBIs in the victory.

Forrest was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Flinspach was 2-for-3 and O’Neill was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Shay Harry was also 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Berries, while Adam Smerkar walked three times, drove in a run and scored twice and Trevor Gladin also added two runs scored.

Flinspach got the win going seven innings allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out six.

Tony Thompson was 3-for-4 with a run scored for A-C Valley with Levi Orton going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Luke Whitcomb took the loss allowing five unearned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one in 1 ⅔ innings of work.

CRANBERRY 12, KEYSTONE 3

SENECA, Pa. – Completing a perfect day for itself and for its coach, Pat Irwin in family bragging rights, Cranberry beat Keystone 12-3.

The win gave Irwin wins over his uncle Dewey’s coached A-C Valley squad and the school that his dad, Bill, is the athletic director at, Keystone.

Harry, Gladin and Flinspach each had two RBIs in the victory with Harry going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Gladin 1-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Flinspach 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Trevin Chittester was also 2-for-4 with an RBI for Cranberry with Matt Weaver going 2-for-2 with an RBI, O’Neill 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored and Forrest drawing a walk and scoring twice.

Gladin got the win going five innings allowing an unearned run on four hits while striking out nine. Smerkar pitched an inning giving up two unearned runs on a hit and two walks while striking out one and Forrest threw a scoreless seventh walking one and striking out one.

Dawson Steele was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Keystone. Alex Rapp was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Brooks LaVan added an RBI.

LaVan took the loss allowing 10 runs, five earned, on six hit, four walks and a hit batter while striking out one in 3 ⅓ innings. Steele pitched 2 ⅔ innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out one.

FRANKLIN 4, ERIE 3

ERIE, Pa. – Franklin moved to 13-5 with a 4-3 win at Erie.

Brendon Gordon was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Knights while Zach Baughman was 2-for-2. Tyus Wood, Connor Rakow and Kaden Keely had RBIs.

Kolten Banfi got the win going two innings in relief allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three. Keely picked up the save going two scoreless, hitless innings. He walked three and struck out three. Rakow started and went three innings allowing a run on three hits and a walk while striking out two.

UNION 12, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS

TIONESTA, Pa. – Isaac Yoder tossed a two-hit shutout and also drove in four runs to lead visiting Union to a 12-0, five-inning win over Forest Area at West Forest.

Yoder went five innings walking two and striking out six. He was also 2-for-3 with a walk and the four RBIs at the plate.

Clayton Marsh added a 2-for-2 day with two walks, two RBIs and four runs scored for the Golden Knights with Hunter Johnston going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Zachary Flick drove in three runs as well, Lukas Salvo had a double and Lucas Bowser and Luke Bowser each scored twice.

Dillon DiCorpo and Bobby Dittman had hits for Forest Area.

Chris Pedersen took the loss giving up five runs on five hits and five walks in two innings of work.
