Basil Woodring Robison

RobisonBasil Woodring Robison, age 97, of Tavares, Fla., formerly of Oil City, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016.

He was born April 2, 1919, in Port Matilda, Pa., Center County, to John and Gertrude Woodring Robison.

He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served in the 77th Infantry in the South Pacific, including Guam and Okinawa. On October 27, 1945, he received the Bronze Star for meritorious service.

He then worked for Quaker State Oil Co. in the purchasing department, where he retired after 23 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He married the late Velma Rose in Corning, N.Y. in October 1942.

They had two children, a son, Ted (deceased) and his wife, Kathy of Columbus, Ga., and a daughter, Patty Reed, and her husband, John of Tavares, Fla. and Oil City, Pa..

He also has three grandchildren, Beth Valacqua and husband J.C. of Calif., Jason Reed and fiancée Nicole Rehberg of Oil City, and Bradleigh Uthe, and husband, Peter of N.C.

He has four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Reed, Cole Reed, Katelyn Tooker and Ryan Reed.

He married Jane Welms on June 25, 1988, who preceded him in death, and is survived by a step-daughter, Debbie Myers and her husband, James of Cochranton, Pa.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, William, Andrew, Kenneth, and Harry.

He is survived by a brother, John and his wife, Jane of Bellefonte, Pa.

Basil’s main hobby was golf.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Byron K. Myers, officiating.

Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 100 Central Ave, Oil City, Pa. 16301.
