Beatrice L. Boughner

Beatrice L. Boughner, 83, of Oil City, joined her husband in heaven on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, after passing away in her home.

Born on April 19, 1935, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Lewis A. and Ruby (Baker) Simons.

On June 26, 1953, she married the love of her life, Merle D. Boughner; he preceded her in death on December 22, 1989.

For 20 years, she worked as a maintenance worker for Cornplanter Township; she also did custodial work for both the Plumer Church and the Masonic Hall.

Beatrice kept herself very busy with a wide range of clubs and activities. She was an active member of the Plumer United Methodist Church, where she on the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees and a Bible School Teacher. She was also very involved in her church’s choir, as well as the Bethel United Methodist Church’s choir. Beatrice was one of the founding members of the first Girl Scout Troop in Plumer, and also a leader, and volunteered with the Toy Makers of Venango County.

She has a wide variety of hobbies, like painting, reading, gardening, wood working, fishing, camping, and visiting Antique Tractor Shows.

Beatrice was also a caretaker of the Bredinsburg Cemetery and President on the board of the Plumer Cemetery.

Most of all, Beatrice loved and cherished her family and the time she spent with them. The highlight of her day was spending time with her great-granddaughter, Kelsey Leann Barger.

Beatrice also lived her life by her personal motto, ” It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”

Beatrice is survived by her two daughters, Ruby Myers and her husband, Leslie, of Reno, and Linda Lander and her husband, Gary, also of Reno; her grandchildren, Jeremy James Paup and his wife, Renata, of Oil City, Casey Danielle Barger and her husband, Brian, of Oil City, and Nick Lander and his wife, Michelle, of Seneca; her five step-grandchildren; her great-grandchild, Kelsey Leann Barger; her 6 step-great-grandchildren; and her six step-great-great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by her five sisters, Shirley Lindsey of Franklin, Sue Bean and her husband, Francis, of Utica, Verda Strawbridge of Franklin, Ruth Hersman and her husband, Ronald, of Polk, and Patricia Myers of Franklin; and by her several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Beatrice was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis Ashley Simons and four brothers-in-law.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Beatrice will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., starting at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Ali Berkey, pastor of the Plumer United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be held at Plumer Cemetery.

Memorial contribution can be made in Beatrice’s honor to the Venango County Volunteer Toy Makers, 191 Howard St, Franklin, PA 16323.
