Bette L. Gharing

Bette L. Gharing, 93, of Oil City, died peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Oakwood Heights.

Born January 3, 1924, in Reno, PA, she was the daughter of the late Guy Robert and Ivy Ella Rogers Smith.

Bette was a Rocky Grove High School graduate.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.

On March 25, 1968, she was married to William P. Gharing, who preceded her in death.

Bette was known for her love of puzzles, her crocheting, playing her organ, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Surviving is three sons, William Henderson and his wife Patty of Tionesta, Wade Gharing and his wife Harriott of Latrobe, and William Gharing and his wife Emma of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Shauna, Lisa, Bill, Crissy, Connie, Cathy, Jimmy, and Brian; and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother Frank Smith of Florida.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bette was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Raymond, James, and Herbert Smith.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 3 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 3 pm, Sunday with the Rev. Bryon K. Myers officiating.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the first-floor nurses and staff of Oakwood Heights for the great care they gave Bette and suggests memorials be made to AseraCare Hospice.
