Betty SpeerBetty Ann Speer, 80 of Whispering Oaks in Hermitage formerly of Franklin passed away at 4:30 P.M. on Sunday January 8, 2017 with her family by her side.

Born December 5, 1936 in Arnold, PA she was a daughter of the late August G. and Serena Mae McArdle Bohy.

She was a graduate of Arnold High School and lived the majority of her live raising her five children in Lower Burrell, PA.

Betty worked for a number of years in the Insurance Office at Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington, PA.

Betty was a porcelain china painter and supplied gift shops in Lower Burrell and Volant with her work. She loved to travel all over the world and she was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She was a past member of the Burrellton Garden Club. She was also a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.

Betty was a woman of faith who dedicated much of her time to the five churches she belonged to throughout her life. In all of the churches, she served in various capacities from funeral dinner planning to teaching youth group. Betty enjoyed her time at the Rockland United Methodist Church especially the bible study group. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

Betty formerly worked at St. James United Methodist Church in Greenville NC, with the Franklin Graham Crusade helping missionaries around the world. She was also a former volunteer at The Caring Place in Franklin.

On May 3, 1958 she married Richard Speer and he survives.

Also surviving are five children; Barry Speer and his wife Dee Ann of Winterville, NC, Randy Speer and his wife Susan of Albertus, PA, Timothy Speer of Franklin, Heidi Worth her husband Jim of Franklin and Daniel Speer of Shawboro, NC; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amanda, Serena, Clint and Mark; and three sisters, Diane Hillard of TX, Kathy Page of NV, and Sharon Wiseman of IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin, where private services will be held for the family with Rev. Jeff Little, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be made at a later date in Rockland Cemetery.
