The Blue and Gold return to action Friday when they host Mercyhurst at Memorial Stadium for a Friday afternoon doubleheader.

Clarion faced an offensive onslaught from Bloomsburg in game one. After second basemen Tyler Benson blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to open the scoring, the Huskies added at least one more run every inning.

Clarion would strike back immediately in the second after a Ty Bittner RBI single scored John Finke, however, BU pitcher Mark Bobko threw four strong innings of one-hit ball before handing it off to reliever Chad Cooperman to close things out for the Huskies.

Game two featured a similar scenario for the Blue and Gold, as Bloomsburg rushed out to an early four-run lead after one inning of play. A SAC fly from Wes Lang scored Austin Mike in the second, while later in that same inning Matt Kamenicky managed to reach on a throwing error from the BU defense, allowing third-basemen Cole Shaffer to cross home and cut Bloom’s lead to two.

They would add two more in the third to draw within a one run. After another homer from Benson put BU on top 5-2, Austin Mike drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-3 shortly before Cole Shaffer roped an RBI single into left field to score another.

Bloomsburg’s bats would outlast CU, however, as the Huskies added two more runs apiece in the fifth and sixth inning to close out game two 9-4 and secure a series sweep.
