Bomb Squad Called, Charges Pending After Explosive Device Found at Franklin Home

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is in hot water after a homemade explosive device was found at his apartment on Friday.

A release issued by Franklin Police Department said the incident happened on Dec. 6 while officers were attempting to locate a wanted person at an Arbor Circle apartment.

Patrolman Floor said a resident of the apartment — 22-year-old Tyler Howard — allowed officers to enter the residence to search for the wanted person.

Inside the apartment, officers found a briefcase style box containing multiple drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers also located what appeared to be a homemade explosive device. Pictures of the device were sent to the Erie Bomb Squad and two members of the squad were dispatched to the scene. The device was secured and transferred to Erie.

Patrolman Floor said investigators believe the explosives inside the device were the equivalent of a stick of dynamite.

The following charges are pending:

– Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, Felony 3
– Risking a Catastrophe, Felony 3
– Possession with Intent to Deliver, Felony
– Prohibited Offensive Weapons, Misdemeanor 1
– Drug Possession, Misdemeanor
– Possession of Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
