CLINTONVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – The headaches continued for Clintonville Sewage & Water customers as many residents were without water for several hours due to technical issues at the town’s water plant.

The following statement was released Thursday evening, urging residents to conserve water:

“This message is for Clintonville Water customers. This is a very serious emergency. We are experiencing serious technical difficulties at the water plant. Our booster pumps are frozen up. It is imperative that all customers please conserve water immediately. You may also notice low water pressure. If we do not conserve as much water as possible, we will have no water by midnight. We will notify you again once the conserve water alert is safely lifted. Thank you for your attention to this dire matter.”

On Friday morning, Clintonville Sewage & Water issued another statement around 8:45 a.m., notifying residents that the town’s water tower was empty:

“URGENT!! URGENT!! This message is for all Clintonville Water customers. This is a very serious emergency. Our water tower is now empty. They are working on the pumps and hope to have everything working within a couple hours. However, once your water is restored, you will have to boil water until further notice, approximately Wed. or Thurs. We will notify you again once the conserve and boil water alerts are safely lifted. Thank you for your attention and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

Late Friday morning, water service was restored; however, many residents report having very low water pressure. Residents are being instructed to boil water prior to consumption.

When a boil order is issued, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that water be brought to a rolling boil for one minute before it is consumed in order to kill protozoa, bacteria and viruses.

The boil order is expected to remain in effect until at least next Wednesday.

Calls to Clintonville Sewage & Water Authority have not yet been returned.
