Shumaker told exploreJeffersonPA.com that Arlene Balmer, 72, of Sigel, and John Kerr, 42, of Apollo, died in Friday morning’s fire.

Shumaker said the time of death was approximately 7:30 a.m. for both Balmer and Kerr. Balmer was found on the first floor, in bed, while investigators believe Kerr was on the second floor in a loft area.

The official causes of death for both individuals will be released pending further investigation.

According to the Marienville-based State Police, a third individual — a 46-year-old woman — was transported to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh via STAT MedEvac where she was treated for smoke inhalation and moderate burns.

An official from Jefferson County 9-1-1 said the call came in around 7:00 a.m. for a fire at a residence along Route 949, near Campers Paradise and Ames Circle.

Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, Sigel Volunteer Fire Department Ward 2 Millstone Township, Farmington Volunteer Fire Department, Marienville Volunteer Fire Company, Warsaw Township Volunteer Fire Department, Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Corsica Volunteer Fire Company, and Brookville Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to the scene.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker, a cadaver dog from Harrisburg was called to the scene later that morning to help with the search for the deceased.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Further details are expected to be released by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Unit.
