UPDATE: Authorities Identify Body Found Along Allegheny River

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Oil City Police Department were called this morning around 8:30 a.m. about a possible body in the Allegheny River near the Wye Bridge.

According to Oil City Police Chief Robert Wenner, the body of a white male has been identified.

Sources say the body has been identified as a 26-year-old Oil City man.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

An autopsy will be done by Dr. Vey in Erie at the direction of Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh.

Oil City Police were assisted by Franklin-based State Police and Oil City Fire Department.

Chief Wenner told exploreVenango.com, “At this time, it is too early to make a statement about the cause of death. It is standard procedure for the Oil City Police Department to investigate every incident from every aspect to insure that a full and detailed investigation is completed.”

“A complete and detailed press release will be issued to all media once the deceased’s next of kin are notified, the autopsy is completed, and the investigation is completed.”
