FRANKLIN, Pa. (ETY) — A “Do Not Use Water” notice has been issued for some residents in the City of Franklin this afternoon.

According to Franklin City Manager Tracy Jamieson, residents west of Orchard Street, including those on Pacific Street, Erie Street, Grant Street, and Atlantic Avenue, as well as any smaller streets between Orchard Street and Erie Street, are asked not to drink or use their tap water until further notice.

Jamieson stressed the water should not be given to pets, either, and should not be used for bathing, hand washing, washing dishes, or any other cleaning.

Jamieson told exploreVenango.com that the city has been receiving complaints of bluish or greenish water, water with a bad odor, and water making people feel nauseous after drinking it.

Notices have been going out to residences and businesses in the affected area.

“We’ve had samples taken, but until we get those results back, we won’t know what we’re dealing with or how to find the source of it,” Jamieson said, “Boiling or freezing the water isn’t recommended, either, as we don’t know what we’re dealing with yet.”

Cases of bottled water are available to affected residents at the Franklin Fire Department. They also have two water buffalos full of water for people to collect and use for non-drinking purposes.

Anyone unable to get to the fire department can call the city at 814-437-1485 to arrange for delivery.
