Driver Killed in Chain Reaction Crash on I-80

EMLENTON, Pa. (EYT) – One person was killed in a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 80 on Thursday evening.

Clarion-based State Police say the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. near mile marker 40.8 on Interstate 80 eastbound.

According to police, four commercial vehicles were involved in the crash.

The accident happened when a vehicle operated by a known 54-year-old Warren, Ohio man struck the rear of a vehicle operated by 64-year-old James Beaty of Nicktown, Pa.

Beaty’s vehicle was subsequently pushed into a vehicle operated by 61-year-old Calvin Tartt of Canton, Ohio.

Tartt’s vehicle then collided with a vehicle operated by 37-year-old Alonzo Pipkin of Columbus, Ga.

The 54-year-old Warren, Ohio man was killed in the accident.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Police did not indicate whether anyone else was injured.

The crash shut down a 16-mile stretch of Interstate 80 eastbound between mile marker 29 and mile marker 45 for nearly five hours.
