BREAKING NEWS: Driver Trapped in Burning Truck Dies

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — One person is dead following a fiery crash late Sunday afternoon on Interstate 80 eastbound in Clarion County.

The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. near mile marker 66.8 when a tractor trailer caught fire following a multi-vehicle accident.

Sources say the truck was fully engulfed in flames with one person trapped inside.

The Clarion County Coroner’s office was called to the scene at 5:13 p.m.

Clarion County Deputy Coroner Randall Stom told exploreClarion.com that the person trapped inside the truck died.

The coroner’s office has not been able to identify the victim due to the body being burned beyond recognition.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning at the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office.

Clarion-based State Police, Clarion Hospital EMS, Clarion Fire and Hose Company No. 1, Corsica Volunteer Fire Company, Limestone Township Volunteer Fire Company, and Strattanville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 were also dispatched to the scene.

According to a representative of Clarion-based State Police, Interstate 80 eastbound remains closed from Exit 60 to Exit 70 as of 8:30 p.m.

Authorities are in the process of conducting an accident reconstruction.

Major backups have been reported on Interstate 80.

Heavy traffic has also been reported on Routes 208, 322, 68, and 66 in the Clarion and Shippenville area due to traffic being diverted.
