BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Two people died in an accident that shut down part of Route 322 in Brookville, Jefferson County last night.

The accident took place around 9:00 p.m. when a 2004 Honda Civic operated by 27-year-old Anthony J. Turner, of Zanesville, OH, left the right side of the roadway while traveling east at a high rate of speed on Route 322 near Moonlight Drive-In Theatre.

Police say Turner then swerved into the west bound traffic lane as he attempted to regain control of the vehicle.

The right side of Turner’s vehicle subsequently collided with the front of a 2007 GMC Envoy operated by 65-year-old Pat N. Smith of Brookville.

Turner and a 1-month old female infant were pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernie Snyder.

Smith and an unnamed female passenger were transported to Brookville Hospital for treatment of injuries of an unknown severity.

Pine Creek Township VFD assisted at the scene.
