JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – A New Bethlehem couple was found dead at an abandoned rail bed in Oliver Township, Jefferson County yesterday.

State police say Ricky L. Miller and Kathryn L. Divins, both of New Bethlehem, were discovered deceased yesterday afternoon inside Miller’s vehicle in a remote area near East Branch Road in Oliver Township by individuals riding all-terrain vehicles on an abandoned rail line.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Major Case Investigation Team responded to the scene.

After an initial investigation, it was determined Miller and Divins had been involved in a long term relationship and lived together.

According to police, Miller and Divins were in the area for the holiday weekend, and at some point (which is believed to be during the evening hours of Friday, August 31) went to the location where they were subsequently discovered.

Miller and Divins were pronounced deceased at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder.

Both died as a result of single gunshot wounds.

Police believe that Miller shot Divins then killed himself. At this point in time, there is no indication of anyone else being involved.

Police say the investigation is on-going.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office and personnel from the Oliver Township Fire Company assisted at the scene.
