One Dead, One Flown to Pittsburgh Following Interstate 80 Accident

EMLENTON, Pa. (EYT) – Emergency officials say one person is dead, and another was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital following an accident this morning on Interstate 80 westbound in the Emlenton area.

According to Clarion-based State Police Trooper Yockey, the accident happened at approximately 8:21 a.m. in the area of mile marker 44.7.

Franky Munoz, Jr., of Youngstown, OH, was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 when his vehicle traveled off the northern side of the roadway and barrel-rolled several times before coming to a final rest.

Munoz was flown by STAT MedEvac to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

A passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene by Clarion County Corner Terry Shaffer.

Authorities did not release the name of the deceased.

PSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team, PSP R/1, PSP Franklin, Emlenton VFD, Emlenton Ambulance, St. Petersburg VFD, Knox Ambulance, and PennDOT assisted at the scene.

Interstate 80 was closed for approximately 4 hours while Pennsylvania State Police troopers conducted their investigation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
