Details of the case

According to a criminal complaint, on December 4, Lieutenant Ruditis, of the Oil City Police Department, was dispatched to a residence on Seeley Avenue for a report of a burglary.

The complaint notes that through investigation, it was then determined unknown individual(s) had entered the residence through a rear window and removed items including two pairs of Alpine Star riding boots; two Troy Lee Designs riding helmets; a black youth compound bow; an RC car; a cell phone; and other various items.

The victim of the incident provided detailed descriptions of the riding boots and helmets, and, according to the complaint, Lieutenant Ruditis then realized he may have seen some of the items at another residence during another investigation.

On December 5, Lieutenant Ruditis and Patrolman Culp traveled to the residence where Lieutenant Ruditis believed he had seen the items previously.

According to the complaint, the residents of the home stated they had the items, including the riding boots, helmets, a cell phone, other riding equipment, a digital camera, and other items, and said they received the items from Cory Deeter in exchange for cash. They also reported Deeter had attempted to sell them a small black compound bow he had in a pillow case. They stated Deeter obtained the items from an abandoned house.

On December 10, Deeter was taken into custody.

According to the complaint, Deeter reported he was not involved in the incident, and told police Angela Smalley had conducted the burglary and had brought the items to a residence where he had been staying. He noted she also had contact with Matthew Culver.

Lieutenant Ruditis then received information about Smalley’s location, as well as information that she had multiple outstanding arrest warrants. Lieutenant Ruditis and Chief Ragon then traveled to the location and took Smalley into custody.

According to the complaint, when questioned, Smalley reported she had contact with Culver and met him in the area of Harriott Avenue, and while walking together, they entered the victim’s residence and removed multiple items. Then, they went in separate directions, and she took the items she had taken back to her residence.

She related she provided Culver with the adult size riding boots and helmet that she had removed from the residence. She said she did not remove the compound bows, but, she believed Culver did, the complaint indicates.

When questioned about Deeter’s involvement, Smalley stated he was not involved, and noted that “Culver does not like Deeter.” She allegedly told police “she believed Culver made the statement against Deeter due to not liking him,” the complaint states.
