WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Barack Obama has been re-elected president.

Obama will serve a second term after winning re-election, beating Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

He won Ohio and six other swing states to surpass 270 electoral votes and secure another term as president.

Shortly after NBC projected Obama as the winner, he tweeted “This happened because of you. Thank you” to his supporters.
