CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Three people were killed in a two-vehicle accident on Route 157 in Cranberry Township Saturday night.

State police in Franklin say the accident took place around 6:15 p.m. when 25-year-old Taylor R. Knight, of Oil City, lost control of his 2001 Mercury Sable while traveling west on Route 157 near Heckathorn Church Road.

Police say Knight counter-steered after his vehicle left the roadway, causing it to slide sideways and cross into the eastbound lane of Route 157.

An eastbound vehicle operated by 52-year-old Joseph C. King, of Oil City, subsequently crashed into the passenger’s side of the sliding car.

Knight and King were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in King’s vehicle, 51-year-old Laura L. King, of Oil City, was transported to UPMC where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, none of the victims were wearing seat belts.

Officials say speed was a definite factor in the crash.
