Oil City Teen One of Three Killed in Tionesta Crash

TIONESTA, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities have released the identities of all three teenagers killed in a Wednesday evening crash in Tionesta.

Police say the accident took place around 7:30 p.m. when 19-year-old Thomas E. Phelps, of Oil City, lost control of his vehicle while traveling west on German Hill Road at its intersection with Tiger Alley.

NOTE: Due to conflicting information received in official reports, exploreVenango.com previously identified the operator of the vehicle as Cody Mohrey. CODY MOHREY WAS NOT THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE. He was a passenger.

The vehicle left the roadway and traveled approximately 85 feet before striking a tree.

The driver and front seat passenger, 17-year-old Cody Mohrey, of Tionesta, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Forest County Coroner, Norman J. Wimer, the two deceased individuals at the scene needed to be extracted from the vehicle.

A third passenger, 19-year-old Cody Masters, of Titusville, was flown by life flight to UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie where he was pronounced dead.

Erie County Deputy Coroner Dennis Suscheck told exploreVenango.com that the cause of Master’s death was blunt force trauma.

Tionesta VFD, Tionesta Ambulance, Forest County Sheriff’s Office, and STAT MedEvac assisted at the scene.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
