According to a representative of Venango County 911, the call came in at 1:08 a.m. for two semis that crashed on I-80 at mile marker 34 1/2.

State Police-Franklin, Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, Superior Ambulance Service, and PennDOT were called to the scene.

STAT MedEvac was also dispatched.

Franklin-based State Police told exploreVenango.com that there were actually two accidents.

The first accident happened as a tractor-trailer rolled onto its side and blocked both westbound lanes.

The second crash occurred as a semi-truck was traveling westbound and didn’t see the other semi across the roadway. When the operator noticed the road was blocked, he averted his semi, hitting a car that was also traveling west on the roadway.

The second semi pushed the car off the roadway and then proceeded to smash through the trailer that was on its side, according to state police.

According to Clintonville Fire Chief Gerry Rae, Marion Township and Pine Township Volunteer Fire Departments and Cliff Hovis Towing assisted with extrication of the man who was trapped in the semi from the rollover accident.

He said that it took nearly an hour to get the man out of the vehicle.

The driver of the car that was involved in the collision told Chief Rae that the second semi actually saved his life, as the semi inadvertently pushed him out of the way of danger.

The fire departments cleared the scene around 4:30 a.m.

STAT MedEvac transported the man that was involved in both crashes to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital-Pittsburgh for injuries of unknown severity.

The person in the car was treated at Grove City Hospital for minor injuries and has been released, according to state police.

Police say the man in the second semi was transported to Grove City Hospital for suspected minor injuries.
