Details of the case:

Trooper Knight Dispatched to Residence for Report of Attempted Burglary

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:45 a.m., on Friday, March 17, Clarion-based State Trooper Knight was dispatched to a residence on South 2nd Avenue for a report of an attempted burglary.

The criminal complaint states that Trooper Knight met with a female resident at the apartment who said that two people – a known 13-year-old male neighbor and an unknown white male – entered her home earlier that morning.

According to the victim, the juvenile entered the apartment, followed by the unknown white male, later identified as Nathan Edward Harbison. Harbison approached the victim in the kitchen area of the apartment and told her multiple times to “open the safe.” When the victim told Harbison that she did not have a safe, he allegedly stated, “I got a gun in my pocket, and I’ll shoot you,” the complaint states.

At this point, the white male lifted the front of his shirt and revealed the grip part of what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband. He did not remove the gun from his waistband, according to the victim. The victim grabbed a kitchen knife, told the man to leave, then chased him and the juvenile from her residence, the complaint continues.

Video Surveillance Helps Identify Suspect

Surveillance footage at the residence showed the individuals entering the apartment.

Investigators took screen captures of one of the individuals in the video and provided them to exploreClarion.com.

After the images were posted on exploreClarion.com, Trooper Knight was contacted by two individuals who were able to identify the unknown white male as Nathan Edward Harbison.

Juvenile Interviewed by State Police

According to the complaint, on June 6, the known juvenile was interviewed at the Clarion-based State Police barracks. He told Trooper Knight that his sibling’s friend “Nate” was at his residence on March 16. The juvenile’s residence is located in close proximity to the scene of the crime.

Throughout the night, “Nate” was left alone in the residence and without the juvenile’s knowledge allegedly took a BB gun located in his closet. “Nate” then allegedly told the juvenile to take him to the victim’s residence, the complaint indicates.

According to the complaint, the juvenile told Trooper Knight that he then knocked on the front door and the victim answered. At this point, the juvenile stood in the front door area while “Nate” entered the apartment. The juvenile confirmed that “Nate” asked the victim multiple times “Where’s the safe?”

The juvenile said that “Nate” pushed the victim and told her he would shoot her if she didn’t “open the safe.” “Nate” fled into the woods after the victim grabbed the kitchen knife, according to the juvenile.

At this point, the juvenile returned to his home, the complaint states.

The juvenile’s testimony indicates that “Nate” then came back to his apartment approximately one hour later and “told him not to say anything.”

“Nate” was then kicked out of the apartment by the juvenile’s mother. The juvenile told Trooper Knight that “Nate” is a white male with a tear-drop tattoo, a mustache, and a “sunken-in face,” according to the complaint.
