Catherine Jane Rawson MacMillan, 90, made her journey to her heavenly home on May 10, 2017 at Centre Crest.

She was born May 1, 1927 in Conneaut Lake, PA, one of seven children of the late Andrew W. and Pearl L. Hood Rawson.

She graduated May 18, 1945 from Conneaut Lake High School located in northwestern Pennsylvania. On October 4, 1946 she graduated from Erie Commercial College, majoring in Secretarial Science. Following graduation, she worked for Carpenters Electric in Meadville, PA from 1946-1948.

Jane was united in marriage with Jack Wallace MacMillan in the Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church by Rev. George Rutherford on November 27, 1948. The couple returned to State College where Jack was enrolled in journalism at The Pennsylvania State University. Following his graduation in 1950, they moved to Franklin, PA where Jack was employed by the Franklin News-Herald. She was active in P.T.A. and Girl Scout programs and was confirmed at St. John’s Episcopal Church on April 8, 1951. All three of their children were born in Franklin, PA.

The family moved to Harrisburg in 1963 when Mr. MacMillan was hired as Assistant Director of the Pennsylvania Travel Development Bureau. In 1964, the family returned to State College when Jack was hired by Penn State as an editorial specialist in the College of Agriculture. Jane was employed by Dank’s Department Store and Penn State’s Pattee Library. From 1991 to 2004, she served as the accountant for Beta Theta Pi fraternity. For many years, Jane was active in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church serving as an usher, collections counter and assisting with Gift Shop operations.

Jane was devoted to their three daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a committed helpmate to her husband, her mother, several elderly relatives, and to her children in times of illness and troubles. She enjoyed their historical Sears & Roebuck home on Fairmount Avenue, Penn State football games, and Lady Lion’s basketball. She volunteered as a guide at the Pasto Agricultural Museum and the Hintz Alumni Center. She was also chairperson of the Friendship Committee for the Penn State Retired Faculty/Staff Club. She was also an active elections poll worker. Her beautiful nature wreaths and scrapbooks were enjoyed by friends and family.

She and her husband owned and operated log cabins in the Cook Forest area near Brookville, PA during the 1970’s and the 1980’s. She enjoyed going to the family farm in Conneaut Lake for reunions and family get-togethers. She traveled throughout the United States to Jack’s WWII ship reunions, helping with notifications and arrangements. Other memorable trips she took during her life were to Alaska, Canada, Nags Head, Florida, and San Diego enjoying them all with members of her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, her parents, an infant sister Bessie Mae Rawson, a sister Alice Pearl Baier, brother Jack and his wife Pat, brother Russell Rawson, brother-in-law Harry Salchak and son-in-law W. G. Higgins. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Salchak of Lady Lake, FL, a brother George Rawson (wife Jean) of Meadville, Pa, and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Rawson, of Conneaut Lake, PA.

Also surviving are her three daughters, Jacqueline (Bradley) Babcock of Lemont, PA; Debbie (John) Menoher of Gainesville, FL; and Jayne Higgins of Carlisle, PA; her six grandchildren, Stephen Greene (Patti) of Falls Creek, PA; Angie Menoher of Miami Beach, FL; Amy Babcock (Angelo) Sotereanos of McKeesport, PA; Tim Babcock (Jan) of Warriors Mark, PA; Carolyn Hill (Jeff) of North Carolina and Mary Higgins of State College, PA; as well as five great-grandchildren: Ava and Seamus Babcock, Gianna and Lucas Sotereanos, and Alex Greene.

Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Centre Crest and Elmcroft. In her remaining years, they provided the wonderful care, compassion, and dignity that our aging loved ones so deserve.

Following her wishes, there will be no immediate memorial or funeral service. Committal (or interment) services and burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
