Charges Accumulate for Franklin Teen Who Ran from Police After Allegedly Supplying Alcohol to Minors

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin teen who ran from police as he was being transported to Venango County Jail for supplying alcohol to minors faces additional charges.

According to online court documents, Franklin Police filed criminal charges against 18-year-old Austin David Clelland, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, on Saturday, December 31, Austin Clelland had already been arrested for underage drinking and supplying minors with alcohol. He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland on the following charges:

– Induce Minor Buy Liquor/Malt Beverage, Misdemeanor 3 (four charges)
– Purchase Etc Alcoholic Beverage By A Minor

Judge Kirkland remanded Clelland to the Venango County Jail on $5,000.00 monetary bail.

At 9:58 p.m., he was handcuffed in front, and he was in the process of being transported to the Venango County Jail. Before entering the patrol car, Clelland ran from custody. He was warned that he was going to be tazed, and a successful tazer deployment was applied to effect the arrest, the complaint states.

At 9:59 p.m., Clelland was taken into custody a second time, where he was taken to Venango County Jail on the original charges, the complaint continues.

New Criminal Charges

Clelland was arraigned at 4:30 p.m. on January 1 in front of Judge Kirtland on the following charges:

– Escape, Felony 3
– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2

Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on January 11 for both cases in Venango County Central Court in front of Judge Kirkland.
