Charges Piling Up for Bronx Man Accused of Making Fraudulent Purchases in Venango County

CRANBERRY, Pa. (EYT) – Additional charges have been filed against a New York man accused of using another man’s identity to purchase multiple cellular phones in Venango County.

Jeffrey Reynoldo Garcia, 30, of Bronx, New York, is now facing additional charges that include one felony count of forgery and misdemeanor charges of retail theft and identity theft.

According to a criminal complaint filed Sunday by Franklin-based State Police Trooper Schmader, the investigation was initiated following an incident on October 13 at Verizon Wireless in the Cranberry Mall.

As Tpr. Schmader arrived on scene; he was informed that officers from Franklin Police Department were searching for Garcia after he allegedly provided false identification to them at Verizon Wireless in Franklin.

Through their investigation, Franklin Police determined that Garcia fraudulently obtained two devices at Verizon Wireless in the Cranberry Mall.

The investigation began in Franklin after an employee suspected suspicious activity and triggered a silent alarm.

On October 14, Tpr. Seybert spoke with Verizon Wireless district manager Amanda Anthony who indicated that Garcia caused a loss of $1920 at the Cranberry store.

According to Anthony, Garcia purchased two cellular phones using another man’s account and signed a contract using the same man’s name.

Garcia is also facing several misdemeanor charges in connection with the incident in Franklin. Those charges include two counts each of providing false identification to a law enforcement officer, obstructing the law, and possession of an instrument of crime, and one count each of flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, and disorderly conduct. Those charges last week in Venango County District Court.

He remains remanded to the Venango County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 1 at 8:30 a.m. in district court.
