Spangler PhotoCharles Edward Spangler, 74, of Strattanville, died Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born June 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Earl and Helen (Neese) Spangler.

After high school, he served in the United States Army in the HQN Company B, 725th Ordinance Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, from 1960 until 1963.

Charles had his own backhoe service in the Washington, PA area in the 1970s and 80s. He then joined Hartman and Hartman Construction Company of Washington until his retirement in 2014.

He was a member of the Clarion VFW 2145, Clarion Eagles 3807, Fryburg Sportsman’s Club, Strattanville Sportsman’s Club, American Legion Post 571 of Wesleyville, and the Moose Club of Morgantown, WV.

Charles is survived by a son, Gary C. Spangler and wife Erin of Marianna, PA; a daughter, Holly A. Kalkhof and husband Paul of Pittsburgh, PA; and grandchildren Aiden, Mackenza and Gus Spangler, and Olivia Kalkhof.

He is also survived by his companion of 16 years, Linda Rogers; her sons Alan (Melissa), Alvin (Tina), Albert Lee (Kristin); and a daughter April (Jeff) Allen; grandchildren Dalton, Whitney, Ciana, Presley, Cody, Colton, and Cameron Rogers, and Corbin, Caitlin and Kylie Allen.

In addition, he is survived by three brothers, Robert E. Spangler of Strattanville, Eugene L. Spangler of Erie, and James L. Spangler and wife Ann of Fairmount City; a sister, Sandra K. Reed and husband John of Strattanville; and a sister-in-law Deborah Spangler of Strattanville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard F. Spangler.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday with Rev. Nancy Zahn, pastor of the Strattanville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park.

Military Honors will be accorded by the funeral honor guard of Clarion American Legion Post 66 at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
