Chuck HovisCharles Henry “Chuck” Hovis, 76, a resident of Cooperstown, died peacefully Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Vincent Healthcare Center in Erie following a period of declining health; with his loving family by his side.

He was born June 9, 1940 in Franklin, a beloved son of the late: George W. and Eva Low Hovis.

Mr. Hovis proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962-1968, during the Vietnam War era, where he earned rank of Private.

Upon his honorable discharge from duty, he had worked as a produce manager at various local supermarkets. More recently, he was employed by Baker Transportation as a “GoBus” driver throughout the Venango County area.

He was a life member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the PA Gun Owner’s of America.

He enjoyed the companionship of his dogs, hunting in his earlier years, watching FOX News and driving his golf cart around his home. Foremost always was his family, as he always cherished the fun times they shared together.

He was married May 20, 1994 to the former Sherry L. Ziegler, who survives.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children: Denise Valdesalice and her husband Jay and Scott Hovis and his wife Marci, all of Franklin. Also surviving are his step-children: Brandy Jackson and her husband Gary of Oil City and Donny Greenlee and his wife Shannon of Polk; in addition to eleven grandchildren.

Also surviving is his sister, Jane Wilson and her husband Ron of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Jack, Bill, Robert, Fred, James and infant brother, George W. Hovis, Jr., his sisters: Dorothy DuPont, Betty Sutley and infant sister, Peggy and by a beloved granddaughter, Ashli Hovis.

Friends may call Friday 4-6 PM at the Fox Street Church of God, 229 Fox Street in Franklin, where funeral services will be conducted Friday evening at 6 PM with Reverend David A. Hart, officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard of Franklin, immediately following the funeral services.
