OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The Oil City Police Department is hoping video surveillance footage will reveal who is responsible for vandalizing the city fountain last week.

Someone dumped soap suds into the fountain, located at Wilson Avenue and East First Street, Saturday night.

“Some might say it’s just a little prank, but it really is a disruption to the city,”  Police Chief Bob Wenner said. “It’s something nice for the city’s residents and visitors and when we have to respond to things like this, it makes us unavailable.

“People really need to rethink doing these kinds of things.”

When police officers arrived, the fountain was full of soap suds. The Oil City Fire Department sprayed the soap suds down and then drained the fountain to clean it.

Investigators say some evidence was found at the scene but didn’t elaborate.

Police are reviewing video surveillance footage from area stores to try and find out who bought the soap used in the vandalism.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 814-673-7485.
