Clarence “Spike” Alfred Bromley, 82 of Pleasantville, went to be with the Lord at 2:45am on January 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Clarence was born in Oil City, PA on May 24, 1932 to the late Charles and Amanda Snyder Bromley.

He attended grade school in the Oil City area and later moved to Titusville where he was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1951.

Clarence was a veteran having served as a machine gunner with the 1st Marine Division during the Korean Conflict. He entered the service on April 21, 1952 at Buffalo, NY. He marched in President Eisenhower’s Inaugural parade, had served at Arlington National Cemetery, and as a guard at Camp David. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on April 21, 1955 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Clarence married the love of his life Carolyn Oberhiem on September 25, 1952 at Washington, D.C. Together they raised five children; Stephen Bromley of Fairbanks Alaska, Michael Bromley and companion Debbie of Titusville, Mitchell Bromley and wife Barbara of Titusville, Keith Bromley and wife Beth of Titusville, and Penny Gustavson and husband Gary of Franklin, PA.

Clarence served the City of Titusville as a policeman from 1957 and later as Chief of Police until 1979. He also worked as a shooter of wells for Otto Cupler Torpedo and was a clerk for the PA State Liquor Store from 1980 until 1985. He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and was a past member of the Titusville Lions Club, the B.P.O. Elks, and of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.

He had attended Titusville First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #58 and of the Northwest PA Chief of Police Association.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, card player and traveler having wintered for many years in Myrtle Beach with his wife and many treasured friends.

He was an amazing storyteller and kept his family and friends captivated with his recollections and stories.
He was a blessing to many as he spent a large amount of time creating special projects, events, outings and reunions for his family and friends.

Clarence is survived by his wife; children; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers Clyde Bromley and wife

Lillian of Cape Coral, FL and Earl Bromley and wife Nancy of Pleasantville; a sister Lavinia Nurss of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joan McGregor and Mary Leadbetter; two brothers, Charles Bromley, who died in infancy, and James Bromley; and a great granddaughter Alayna Bromley.

Friends may attend a memorial service on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted following the service.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
