CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion athletics department continued its proud tradition of giving back to the community and those most in need of assistance on Friday when representatives donated checks totaling more than $7,600 to the Clarion Cancer Center.

“We are grateful to all of the members of Golden Eagle athletics for this donation,” Clarion Hospital Foundation director John Stroup said. “This money allows us to take some of the financial burden off patients and their families, and gives them the chance to focus on recovery.”

Golden Eagles athletics teams raised the money, which totaled $7,644, throughout the 2015-16 school year with various fundraisers. Over the last seven years, Clarion Athletics has raised more than $40,000 for the Cancer Center.

“It’s really important for our athletics department to be involved and give back to the community,” Clarion athletics events and promotions coordinator Scott Courtney said. “This is just one of many ways we can do that. We have had a great relationship with the good people at The Cancer Center over the last few years, and we are happy to continue to support the great work they do in our community.”

The Cancer Center uses the donation from Clarion Athletics for various support activates for the patients at The Center including helping to offset transportation costs, miscellaneous bills and incidentals.
